Farmer's Market Vouchers

2023 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Vouchers

All 2023 SFMNP vouchers have been distributed. With help from community partners, there is a plan in place to supply everyone on the waiting list with vouchers or a similar accommodation. The waiting list is now closed. We will be reaching out through the end of August to make sure everyone is served!

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Lackawanna County Area

Agency on Aging is distributing vouchers for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

If you are a resident of Lackawanna County, 60 years of age or older by December 31, 2023 and meet all income guidelines, you are eligible to receive these vouchers.

Persons who reside in a nursing home, personal care home, domiciliary home,
or convent are not eligible.

Income guidelines:

1 person - $26,973; 2 people - $36,482; 3 people - $45,991; 4 people - $55,500; 5 people - $65,009; 6 people - $74,518; 7 people - $84,027; 8 people - $93,536

Income is all total income including Social Security, interest, wages, unemployment benefits, etc.

Checks have increased to $50 total per set of checks, 5 checks each valued at $10 per check. One set of checks is allowed per person per year.

Distribution will begin in June 2023 and will be in person only, with no applications necessary, just proof of address and age. Any application received will not be processed. If an eligible senior cannot attend a distribution event in person, a proxy can act in their place, with a completed proxy form. Blank Proxy forms to print can be found below or can be mailed upon request. A person may be a proxy for up to four (4) persons.

Vouchers may be used for FRESH fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania. Recipients must sign or endorse in the Signature or Proxy block on the front of checks. A senior can still have a proxy visit the market on their behalf and no form is needed.

Processed foods and citrus/tropical fruits are not allowed for purchase with SMFNP checks.

Change is not allowed to be given by the farm stand or farm market employee when a check is spent for fresh produce.

Distribution of SMFNP voucher checks will end on September 30, 2023 or when the supply is

exhausted. Checks are given out on a first come/first serve basis. Recipients have until November 30, 2023, to use the checks at farm stands or farm markets.
